    Make an in quote search for your keywords on Google.com or Google local. This will give you the total number of sites targeting the exact keyword phrase with you.

    Go to "Google keyword tool" and input the exact keyword phrase your targeting on Google, If you are targeting a local seo then you might select a region and take note of the local monthly supply of search volume.

    Now you have your results for the total number volume of sites targeting your keyword and the total search of this same keyword on Google by either Globally search or Local search results.

    With this results you can now perform the KEI which is keyword effective index and it's formula is the square-root of the number of searches divided by the total volume of websites provided by Google.
    • A mathematical approach will be to look at the number of sites as supply (S) while the volume of searches as demand (D), which we now derive the formula D X D / S = KEI
